HELPIN' OUT UP AT ARKANSAS CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL GARDEN!
Ben Pope is the man behind the awesomeness that is growin' on up at Little Rock's ACH Garden this season. Ben is currently a fellow Arkansas GardenCorps member, choosing the ACH garden as his service site this term. Today, Ben had arranged for a group of volunteers to come help harvest and I came to join the fun myself! Each raised bed was packed full of delicious greens from end to end! After a brief tour of the garden and projects, we began the harvest! Besides rows of collards to be harvested, there were lots of raised beds, each were packed full of delicious greens from end to end!
The 13 of us harvested lettuce, kale, cabbage and collards, carefully bagging them and stacking them in tubs to be refrigerated. Most of the volunteers had never been to or worked in a garden before, though several spoke of their parents or grandparents gardens from their childhood.
All together we filled 4 large bins full of produce to be sold and donated back into the community! THIS IS WHAT COMMUNITY LOOKS LIKE!! Thanks Ben!
