Thanks to everyone who donated plants to us recently! Elderberry, Mullein, California Poppies, Yarrow, Irises and some Broccoli plants all found their way down to Plan-It! Earth today! Thank you Josephus, Dunbar Garden, Kyle and Kelsey, Barefoot Gardens and the Satterfield Farm for helping us grow!
We are always excited to get more medicinal herbs down at Earth! The addition of Elderberry, California Poppies, Mullein and Yarrow brings our total number of herbs at PIE to 17 this season! Our herb bed is getting bigger and bigger all the time now! (Especially, because we have been getting more and more perennials that are coming back on their own each season!) Kurt and I dressed up our new hugelculture beds (that we made recently) with a heavy layer of straw to further block weeds and to help moisture stay close to the soil surface. When the soil stays moist all the way to the very top, earthworms will come up and burrow, helping aerate the soil and creating an area for a more bio-diverse soil life! After the straw, we planted the little Broccoli plants in! They look so happy in the freshly made hugel beds! As we were up front in the Hugel bed, Jack B., Ben Pope and Zach helped out by thinning out our oodles and oodles of turnip/radish/kale seedlings back in the main garden beds (behind the Watershed) ...and Barley kinda just did what Barley does! hahaha! FRUIT TREE UPDATE:: Our Peach trees and our Pomegranate tree have all sprouted new leaves, buds and flowers! They are so happy!!
